Creating Unicorn Marionettes

  Objective:  Using recycled materials, students will create and manipulate their own unicorn marionettes. Materials: Paper towel rolls Beads Yarns Glue gun and hot glue Popsicle sticks Googly eyes Paint Pipe cleaners Hole punch Hair dryer Pom-poms (for unicorn tails) Procedure: Preparation: To save time, pre-cut the paper towel rolls and punch holes in them. Painting: Give each student one short and one long paper towel roll to paint in their desired color. Drying: To speed up the drying process, use a hair dryer on the painted paper towel rolls. Attaching the Head: Add yarns to the upper part of the short paper towel roll (neck and bottom). Use 10 beads for the neck and secure the short paper towel roll (head) in place. Creating the Legs: Attach yarns to the lower part of the long paper towel roll (legs) and add 10 beads. Assist students who need help securing the beads. Creating a Forest Habitat Diorama

O bjective: To introduce students to the concept of forest habitat and help them understand the interdependence of organisms within an ecosystem. Materials: Carton boxes Styrofoam Hot glue and glue gun Pebbles Sticks Real leaves (e.g., oak, maple, pine) Colored papers (green, brown, blue) Bottle caps (for the sun) Cotton balls (for the clouds) Laminated animal cutouts (e.g., deer, rabbit, squirrel, owl, snake) Toothpicks Procedure: Base Preparation: Distribute pre-made carton box bases to each student. Terrain Creation: Guide students in cutting Styrofoam shapes to create hills, mountains, or cliffs. Attach these to the base using hot glue or double-sided tape. Forest Floor: Cover the base with brown paper to represent the forest floor. Add layers of green paper or real leaves to simulate grass or undergrowth.
